Ghosts of ancient
underwater clouds,
beluga whales
drift snow-pale.

The walrus is a pyramid
of heavy flesh;
his mop-head face
scrubs at the glass.

Penguins beat strong wings
under the ice,
feathers streaming
in the wet wind.
