Michael J. Leach

Michael Leach is an academic, poet, and poetry reviewer who lives and works in Bendigo on unceded Dja Dja Wurrung Country. He is a Senior Lecturer (Education and Research) at the Monash University School of Rural Health in Bendigo and his tertiary qualifications include a Bachelor of Pharmacy, Graduate Certificate in Population Studies, Graduate Certificate of Science (Applied Statistics), Master of Biostatistics, and PhD in Pharmacy. Michael’s poems have appeared in journals such as Cordite Poetry Review, anthologies such as The Best Australian Science Writing 2024, and his three books: Chronicity (2020), Natural Philosophies (2022), and Rural Ecologies (2024).

Michael’s poems have won or been otherwise recognised in the UniSA Mental Health and Wellbeing Poetry Competition, the Hippocrates Prize for Poetry and Medicine, the Friends of the Alliance Poetry Competition, the Minds Shine Bright Confidence Writing Competition, the Woollahra Digital Literary Award, the Hush Foundation Kindness in Health Writing Prize, the University of Canberra Health Writing Prize, and the Liquid Amber Poetry Prize: Poetry of Change. Michael’s next poetry book, Chords in the Soundscapes, is forthcoming from Ginninderra Press.
